Are free tools bad

Especially for new designers that are just learning and coming up. These ones are not expected to pay for premium tools immediately.
As a beginner, I didn't even look for the premium tools. I need to have a strong foundation with the free tools before going for upgrade.

Who ever considered free graphics design tools bad have no experience with using GIMP. There's nothing you can't do on GIMP. I'm not trying to discredit premium tools but there are so many good free tools which get job done 100%.
I understand that you are not trying to discredit premium tools but whoever that is a beginner in designing should make free tools the best till they are good at it.

Yes you can start working around with the free tools first before paying for the premium ones.

It has served me well and I am grateful for that. Having a strong foundation with the small ones will give a great balance in the premium tools.

AI tools are one of the best free tools to use for graphics designing. As much as I combine using Canva and GIMP, AI tools have been very helpful for me.

Have you tried skipping free tools and using free tools as your first option? What was your feeling? Is it good enough for your needs?

I personally believe that beginners should try tools that do not automate the tasks. Instead try tools that make you go through the basics.
Yeah, I totally get where you’re coming from. I usually start with free tools too, not just because they’re free, but because they really help you understand what’s happening under the hood. Once you struggle a bit with the basics, you actually appreciate automation later on.

I remember learning with non-automated tools first, and it definitely made me more confident when I eventually switched to smarter, paid ones.

What about you, do you still use free tools for learning, or have you completely moved to premium ones now?

As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing wrong with making use of free tools to carry out graphic design project as long as they are getting the job done perfectly.
