There are a lot of things to consider before deciding, if a design requires illustrator or Photoshop. Personally, I make use of illustrator for projects that need scalability. This includes vector based graphics like icons, and logos. When makes you use Photoshop or Illustrator? Are there other requirements that should be available to help in making the decision?

Photoshop has many limitations when compared to Illustrator. Lossless scaling is one of them. It can produce light weight image when compared to PS.

Photoshop is for Photo manipulation, and it does that job the best.

You are right on this. Photoshop is mainly used by photographers to fine tone photos, and that is basically the work that the photographers achieve. Illustrator does more than the work a Photoshop should do.

You are right. When it comes to photo manipulation, Photoshop does the work pretty better than making use of an illustrator.

This was something I noticed when I compared Illustrator to Photoshop. Illustrator is perfect if you are looking to create graphics that need that scalability, Photoshop does not seem to have the option for that which would make sense being they are from the same company, it gets people to use more than one program.

I believe Illustrator is more like the advanced version for graphic designers who want to do more than just photo manipulation. The extra features that you can get by using an Illustrator set it apart from Photoshop.

This is true. I always let designers know that you become better at what you do once you are able to use some of these advanced design tools.

Yes. That is what I am saying. Unless you are doing personal designs and don't want to do it for money, there is a need to learn how to use a whole of other advanced tools aside from using Canva, for example.

I haven't really looked at Illustrator as I'm just learning Photoshop now, but it's something I do want to look at it later on.

I've heard the same sentiments regarding Illustrator and scalable graphics. Something I can use if I wanted to make some logos.

Illustrator is a wonderful tool if you want to make logos. It helps you edit shapes unlike anything. Easy to create shapes by combining shapes. Complex shapes can be made easily.
