When you are working out a payment structure with clients, especially for the first time it can be hard to determine who is real and who is not. All the more so if the clients are expecting services before payment.
It can be the same on their end too.

How do you deal with this?

It is going to be very difficult for you to set up an escrow service by yourself to use it individually when you are working with a client.

I've never seen anyone who does that. It is only when you are working through a freelance platform that makes use of the services that you can enjoy it.

I've used escrow service on Seoclerks some years ago when I was getting graphics design jobs from the website. Clients pay through it and when I deliver my job, they approve and I'll get my full payment.

I have a payment structure put in place for my clients. I take a percentage beforehand and I take the remaining payment before I deliver the work. I assure my clients and they know that there is no need for Escrow because I will definitely deliver.

If you set it up yourself then it is not an escrow service. It is one that you would need a third party intervention. It is all to prove to your clients that you are genuine, it most probably will not be needed after some gigs.

This is basically the best thing for you to do as a freelancer because you cannot really trust all of your clients to be honest and truthful when it comes to sending payment after you have completed the job. Not doing things this way have led a lot of people to be scammed in the process of working as a freelancer.

I cannot even recall how many times I have been scammed, because I submitted the project without receiving payment first. It’s surely not gonna happen again.

I was bitten once and never made the mistake of working and submitting any job without getting my full 100% payment first. No one can be trusted online for me the way I see it.

I wonder how someone like me who's a private freelancer will be able to set up an Escrow services to be used with my clients whenever we want to work on something. If anyone knows, I'm interested.

There are escrow sites you can sign up for, but you should know that they will take a percentage of the payment. The best thing I do is just to have payment right before starting the job. If they can’t trust me, it will be hard to do business together.

Doing this is not going to work out for me because I don't have any interest of making use of a 3rd party services when I know it is possible for me to get my payment upfront from the client I am working for before I start and deliver the job.

I've never used escrow services personally but I know the benefit of using one because it prevents your clients from scamming you after you have delivered jobs for them.

I wish it is something I can be able to use but I've found a way to get my money before I start working.

I have used so many freelancer websites that uses escrow services. It's a very good feature that makes it impossible for anyone to be scammed. Fiverr, Upwork and Seoclerks uses it.

Yes, that will reduce the rate of scams that freelancers experience. There was a time I delivered a job and I was not paid. The person literally ghosted me.

Scamming people online is very easy when you give them the opportunity to do so. If they are not willing to pay at least 50% of the charge, don't agree to do the job.
